Reflecting on life
It is always good to observe everything in our life and see what we can learn from it. However... I DO trust the cat!

We LOVE our cat. We adore him, actually. We call him the "wise one" in our family. But we know he will not mind that last slide - no insecurities for him :) cause he knows he rules!
Iris and Charlie are simply gorgeous. There's nothing like a German Shepherd and when I read that you also have two, I was so excited. I've done a ton of training with ours and actually am getting ready to start a new class next week. It's so, so much fun and I always learn more from my dogs than I could every hope to teach them. We lost Zach in June, 2007 and our home just wasn't the same. In July, 2008, we brought home Max and Ellie (litter mates) and the they've taught me is to slow down a bit and they remind me every day to be a better parent to my four-year-old son, to laugh and not to sweat the small stuff.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and for the link! I hope I'll get to see lots more of Iris and Charlie and of course the "wise one".

When I did have a dog, she reminded me to laugh. She taught me about compassion. And she showed me how animals have feelings and intelligence. I taught her a routine that involved jumping over jumps, running across a long ramp and then at the end, jumping up onto a high stool to await my next signal. Then on the cue, she returned, running back across the ramps and over the jumps. It was soooo much fun! And I could tell that she loved doing it too.

We have a cat. Sometimes I think he's more like a dog (except he doesn't bark...). And we love him...
So, thanks for sharing your dogs (and cat) Maya. I can tell you love them all very much!

I think if I could say one thing that they teach Liz and I, it would be the importance of laughter. As much as they can stress us out, they always keep us laughing out loud as they act like...well...dogs. :-) Eric.
Thank you. I do think my dogs are gorgeous :)
Sorry you lost Zach. What a wonderfully funny and touching post that was - made me laugh and cry all at one :). Enjoy your puppies - and slow down on every front except the vacuuming :). I am still scouring the internet for that magic anti-shed pill !
Hi Davina,
My dogs make me laugh a lot too. They do love and enjoy being trained, don't they?
Hi Evelyn,
Lucky for you that your daughter is asking you only for a hamster. I would guess they are a lot less work :)
Hi Lance,
You have a dog-cat too?? Our cat will fetch, sit and jump on command!!
Okay, I am really done bragging about my animals :)
Hi Mare,
Thank you :)
Hi Vered,
Pets are wonderful. Kids learn a lot from having pets. I know I did - esp during adolescence ...my dogs were my best friends when I thought nobody in the world understood me :) ...
But yes, pets are a commitment and a lot of work too. Cats are much better than dogs from that perspective ...and who knows, you might get lucky (and find a dog-cat) like Lance and I did ...
Hi Eric,
Yes, I have seen pics of your little dogs! I had the most mature Dachshund growing up. She was the epitome of unwavering loyalty!
It is great how much our dogs can make us smile and laugh :)
Hi Cath,
I just have to agree with you. Cats are a perfect compromise. Dogs take a LOT of work and it would have been really hard for me if my husband did not love the dogs as much as he does.
Hi Jean,
Thank you so much!!! I am honored :)

Nice lessons told in a delightful collection. Thank you.
I have just released our last dog into the universe, but they were such fine teachers for my kids and they loved so freely in those moments when we all feel unloved - My kids loved coming home from school and having wags and exuberant greetings.
I have to say I am enjoying a time of not care giving for pets. I like the freedom and having some time just for me.
Maybe again in the future - Maybe

Yes, my dogs are my best teacher when it comes to making the most of every moment. No anger, no sadness carries forward.
Hi Patricia,
Dogs are wonderful for kids. But they are like kids themselves, aren't they? They do need a lot of love and caring. I totally understand when you say you need some time for yourself. Take some time and relax and enjoy, there is nothing wrong with that :) ...I am sure you have done more than your share of caring for others - dogs, kids and all :)

My wife and I have three former stray/street dogs and we are usually fostering one or two. I get a kick out of the personality differences in all dogs...and I find that I even like them better than some humans. :)

Thank you for stopping by - I really like your blog (subscribed :)) and I really admire that you have taken in stray dogs and are always fostering more. I used to foster animals but with little kids we are having to take a break :)
Hi Stacey,
I had to smile and immediately share your comment with my husband. Yes, we enjoyed lazy summer days before we had our little ones and it will be a couple more years become we can be lazy ;)
But thank you, that is indeed a lesson we had forgotten!
Mayas last blog post..Are you a storyteller? What is your story?
Just passed by your site via Zen Habits. I enjoy your blog as you are writing from the heart. So much of what is on the internet is about earning money, etc...it's a bit boring.
Here are 2 links to some of our pets. We have 3 cats and the dog.

good luck
Found this post from your comment on my blog. Love the video! "You don't have to bite to be a good leader" is such a challenge for many people, as is "Let the best person lead". My favourite is "When you feel love for a person, express it."
Thanks for a few smiles today!
